F.A.Q.s (Frequently Asked Questions)
What is a scar?
A scar is a mark created by skin in response to
the healing of a surface injury or wound. A scar is composed mostly
of inelastic fibrous protein collagen. Scars appear different from
normal skin because scar tissue is disorganized and distinctively
different than the normal tissue surrounding it. As a scar ages,
it may fade over time without any medical treatment, however this
is not always the case. Some people may experience scars that become
painful, itchy and/or remain resistant to change.
What is a hypertrophic or keloid scar?
If you have visited your
doctor about your scar, he/she may have used the terms "hypertrophic" (enlarged) or "keloid" (tender
dense and/or red) to describe or clinically classify your scar
condition. Both hypertrophic and keloid scars are thick, raised
and generally discolored.
What types of scarring does ScarEase work on?
ScarEase can be used
to manage both old and new scars resulting from burns, surgical
procedures and traumatic events.
What works better, ScarEase Sheets or ScarEase Gel?
ScarEase Sheets
may work better in certain cases, but have use limitations. Since
ScarEase Sheeting is self adhering, it supplies gentle mechanical
pressure on the skin surface. This is a benefit! However, there
are some areas of the body where ScarEase Sheets cannot be applied
very easily. ScarEase Gel can be used on facial features and skin
folds that limit the effectiveness of ScarEase Sheets. Most people
like ScarEase Gel better than ScarEase Sheets because it is "easier
to use."
Can I wear make-up over the ScarEase Gel.
Yes. Hypoallergenic make-up
can be brushed on to help conceal the scar while ScarEase Gel is
being used.
When I use ScarEase, how long until my scar
becomes less noticeable?
Results
vary from person to person. If you wear ScarEase as directed your
scar should be less noticeable in 8 to 12 weeks.
Will my scar disappear completely?
No product can
make your scar vanish completely. Applied over a scar daily as
directed, ScarEase may soften, smooth, and flatten scars to more
closely match that of the surrounding surface and color. Results
may vary with scar density, age, size and from person to person.
Do ScarEase Sheets come in different shapes?
Using an ordinary
pair of scissors, you can cut ScarEase into any desired shape without
damaging its usefulness.
Can children use ScarEase?
Yes, when used as directed and supervised
by an adult, older children can use ScarEase. Does ScarEase have
any side effects? Not usually, but as with any device applied directly
to the skin's surface, skin reaction to ScarEase (usually sweat
rash) is possible though rare.
Where is ScarEase made?
ScarEase is made in the USA. ScarEase is
a medical grade elastomer and cleared as a medical device by the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Are there any alternatives?
See your doctor for advice. A board-certified
physician specializing as a dermatologist or plastic surgeon may
have a wide range of treatment options. Most dermatologists and
plastic surgeons are skilled at surgically revising scars to make
them appear smaller or less noticeable. In some cases, he/she may
elect to treat scars with injections, or provide you with a topical
device to apply.
